Welcome to the Houlton Higher Education Center, UMPI’s only off-campus location.

Since 2001, the Houlton Higher Education Center (HHEC) has been providing educational opportunities to the people of southern Aroostook County, northern Penobscot County, eastern Washington County, western New Brunswick, Canada, and beyond.  Administered by the University of Maine at Presque Isle, HHEC also houses five additional educational partners, including the University of Maine at Augusta at Houlton, University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Northern Maine Community College, the Houlton/Hodgdon Adult & Community Education Program, and TRIO (Upward Bound, Talent Search, and Maine Education Opportunity Center).  Through UMPI, the Center also hosts High School Aspirations, aimed at increasing the number of students who access and succeed in college.

Since its creation, the Houlton Center has helped many students earn their bachelor’s and associate’s degrees from the University of Presque Isle – located about 40 miles north of the Houlton Center – while staying close to home.  At the Houlton Center, the University offers Associate and Bachelor degrees in the areas of Business, Criminal Justice, English, Elementary Education, History, Liberal Arts, Liberal Studies, and Psychology, in addition to general education courses towards several other degree programs.
