The University held its first ever Diversity Dialogue on Thursday, March 29, 2018 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Campus Center Multi-Purpose Room. The topic was Coming to America: Who Should We Welcome? What Should We Do? This event allowed the campus community to grapple with complex worldview issues by looking at three different perspectives on a particular issue and then debating all sides. More than 100 students, faculty and staff turned out for this inaugural event and left with a deeper understanding of the subject. During the event, artist Heather Nunez-Olmstead also created a live “Things I heard” art piece, pictured below.
Since its creation, the Inclusion and Civility Task Force has worked to host campus conversations on topics that impact our student body and campus as a whole. To suggest a theme for a future event, email umpi@maine.edu.
