In collaboration with The Jackson Laboratory (JAX), the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s (UMPI) TRIO Upward Bound (UB) program has introduced brand new programming for high school freshmen and sophomores who are currently completing summer enrichment programming on the UMPI campus.
In support of a Planet Head Day (PHD) event happening in Szczecin, Poland on June 15, Kevin McCartney, retired Geology professor at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, recently participated in a video recording—featuring him getting his head shaved and painted in the likeness of Pluto—that will be shown as part of the European festivities. The event in Poland is inspired by a similar one that McCartney originated at UMPI in 2007.

University of Maine at Presque Isle President Ray Rice has announced that Cathie Pelletier, nationally-acclaimed author and County native, will deliver the commencement address. In addition, Pelletier and David McCrea, former Maine State Representative, local educator, and UMPI alumnus, will receive Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degrees during the University’s 115th Commencement Ceremony, to be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024.
From Sunday, April 7, until Wednesday, April 10, artist Abigail DeVille’s Lunar Capsule (2023), an interactive sculpture, will go on view at the Houlton Higher Education Center in Houlton, Maine. This collaboration between Bowdoin College and the University of Maine at Presque Isle at the Center offers an exciting complement to a breadth of special programming in association with the upcoming eclipse on Monday, April 8.
The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Reed Fine Art Gallery will present the 2024 Senior Thesis Exhibition by Fine Art Major Dylan Ouellette from Friday, April 5, 2024 through Friday, April 19, 2024. The exhibition will be open for the Presque Isle First Friday Art Walk on Friday, April 5, from 6-8 p.m. and during regular gallery hours through the next two weeks.
