Program Learning Outcomes

From ABET:

Student outcomes describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. These relate to the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that students acquire as they progress through the program.

From National Security Agency (NSA):

Program-Level Learning Outcomes are a description of what graduates should know or be able to do upon completion of the program of study.

From the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) Academic Program Planning & Assessment Policy Manual:

Respective academic program faculty identify general performance elements of a Program Mission, articulating those components as assessable performance standards. Program Proficiencies will reflect, not specifically what individual competencies students have learned, but what complex jobs or tasks “graduates” are able to perform.

The first five outcomes are the same for all computing programs.

• CYB 1 and COS 1.  Analyze a broadly defined problem in the program’s domain and apply principles of the discipline to identify solutions.
• CYB 2 and COS 2.  Design and implement solutions to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline,
• CYB 3 and COS 3.  Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts,
• CYB 4 and COS 4.  Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles, and
• CYB 5 and COS 5.  Function effectively as a member of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.
• CYB 6.  Apply security principles and practices to maintain operations in the presence of risks and threats. [CY]
