The Sociology Minor at the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) offers students a comprehensive understanding of human behavior within social contexts. Through a diverse curriculum, students explore various sociological theories, research methods, and analytical frameworks to critically examine societal structures, inequalities, and cultural dynamics. Courses cover a range of topics including but not limited to race, class, gender, family, deviance, and globalization, empowering students to develop a nuanced understanding of the complex issues shaping contemporary societies.

With a Sociology Minor from UMPI, students gain valuable insights into the dynamics of social interaction, collective behavior, and societal change, preparing them for diverse career paths in fields such as social work, counseling, criminal justice, public policy, and community development. Additionally, the minor complements majors in disciplines such as psychology, anthropology, political science, and education, providing students with a holistic perspective on human behavior and social phenomena. Through engaging coursework, hands-on research opportunities, and experiential learning, UMPI fosters critical thinking skills and a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of individuals and society.
