MASTERS OF ARTS IN ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP

Admission Requirements (Graduate)

1. The University requirement for admission to any master’s degree program is the demonstration of the completion of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or from a recognized foreign institution. Admission may be granted to students in the final term of their undergraduate degree. Matriculation into the program will be granted upon receipt of their officially conferred degree. Once matriculated, students will be eligible to enroll in classes.
2. Applicants must submit an official transcript from the college or university from which their bachelor’s degree or equivalency was granted, excluding the University of Maine System (UMS) campuses. (UMS transcripts are accessible to UMPI.)
3. Official transcripts from any institution at which you have earned graduate credit are required for credit transfer evaluation. A maximum of six credits can be applied to graduate programs. Applicants may transfer graduate-level credit, if credits meet the following requirements and have been determined to be equivalent to a degree requirement course:
   1. Graduate credits previously earned at other institutionally accredited colleges or universities;
   2. Courses have been evaluated, and recommended for graduate credit, by American Council on Education (ACE), and/or military service schools that have been evaluated by the ACE Office of Educational Credit and Credentials and recommended for graduate credit.

5. Applicants whose GPAs are less than 3.0 are required to submit a personal statement. The personal statement (not to exceed 500 words) should reflect the applicant’s ability to write at the graduate level, with attention to appropriate grammar, spelling, form, and structure in preparing the statement. Applicants are asked to respond to the following:
   • Explain how you will ensure your academic success in this graduate program and overcome challenges you may have experienced with your undergraduate program of studies.
     

International students are eligible to apply and enroll; however, an I-20 will NOT be provided as this is a fully online degree program. In addition to the standard admissions requirements, international students must also meet the additional requirements specific to international applicants.

Specific Requirements for International Students

1. The University requires an official third-party evaluation of their transcript from a NACES or AICE approved evaluating organization. 
2. Students who wish to have transcripts reviewed for additional transfer credits are required to provide a course-by-course official evaluation.
3. Applicants whose primary language is not English and who have not demonstrated successful completion of undergraduate post-secondary education in the US must demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English by submitting official results from a recognized English Language Testing System.

Only one of the following options will be accepted:

1. Option 1: TOEFL (including the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition): Minimum score of 79 (iBT) or 550 (paper-based test)
   1. UMPI’s institution code is 3008. Please note: We accept “MyBest Scores” and evaluate these scores the same way we consider superscores for all other tests.
2. Option 2: IELTS (including the IELTS Indicator online test) score of 6.5 or greater
3. Option 3: PTE (Pearson Test of English) score of 53 or greater
4. Option 4: DET (Duolingo English Test) score of 110 or greater
5. Option 5: CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages): Completed level C1 Advanced (Certificate of Advanced English)

4. English proficiency test scores are waived only if at least one of the following is met:

• Native speaker of English with a permanent address from one of the following countries:
  • Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Belize, British Indian Ocean Territory, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guernsey, Guyana, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jamaica, Jersey, Montserrat, Nauru, New Zealand, Pitcairn Islands, Puerto Rico, Saint Helena, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, United Kingdom, U.S. Virgin Islands, United States
• SAT Verbal score is 550 or higher – Institution code: 3008
• ACT English score is 24 or higher – Institution code: 3008
• High school transcript clearly states that English is the language of instruction for all
• Student studying in-person within the U.S. or Canada for two or more years and not in an ESL track.
• Student has earned a grade of C- or higher in a college English Composition course at a regionally accredited U.S. institution, even if the student has not studied in the U.S. for two or more years. ACE credits will not be considered.
