The 2024 guidance mentions that a cybersecurity program had to be aligned with the NIST SP-800-181 NICE Framework Workforce categories:

  • Securely Provision (SP)
  • Operate and Maintain (OM)
  • Oversee and Govern (OV)
  • Protect and Defend (PR)
  • Analyze (AN)
  • Collect and Operate (CO)
  • Investigate (IN)

The UMPI cybersecurity program touches all of these categories.

In November 2020, NIST Special Publication 800-181 Revision 1 was released. The above listed categories have been dropped. The approach is to use building blocks consisting of Tasks, Knowledge, and Skills. Revision 1 describes several uses of Tasks, Knowledge, and Skills for the creation of Work Roles.

On March 5, 2024, NIST released the NICE Framework Components V1.0.0. It has 7 categories, 11 competency areas, and over 2,000 updated Task, Knowledge, and Skill statements. (See https://www.nist.gov/itl/applied-cybersecurity/nice/nice-framework-resource-center)
