YourPace is a personalized learning model developed by faculty who understand the challenges busy adults face when balancing work, family, and school. UMPI offers a range of Bachelor’s degrees and a Master’s degree. Delivered on a digital platform, our competency-based online programs are designed to leverage your previous knowledge and experience as you complete course modules aligned with a list of competencies. You advance to the next course module by demonstrating your mastery of the content—giving you the ability to earn your degree on your time, at your pace.

Tuition is a flat rate per 8-week session no matter how many courses you complete. Plus, with no weekly course deadlines, you control the speed of completing your program.

Requirements for ALL students

  • Students must be 20 years of age at the time of application.

Requirements for In-State / Out of State (applicants with no prior college experience)

  • Official high school transcript or equivalent (e.g., HiSet, GED)
  • Resume (PDF) 
  • Please note that ACE transcripts (including, but not limited to, Credly, Sophia, Study.com, or Straighterline) are not considered proof of college experience and will not be reviewed towards admission. 

Requirements for In-State / Out of State (College Transfer)

  • Official high school transcript or equivalent (e.g., HiSet, GED)
  • Official college transcript(s) 
  • If most recent college experience is 10 years or older, a resume will also be required. 

Requirements for International Students (applicants with no prior college experience)

  • Official English translated high school transcripts must be submitted directly to UMPI by a certifying official that states a high school diploma was earned, the date of graduation, and a cumulative GPA. If the above is not provided, the student may submit their high school transcript to an approved evaluation service. Once completed, the service will submit the transcript directly to UMPI.

  • English proficiency score** (taken within the last 2 years OR English language waiver)

Requirements for International Students (College Transfer)

  • High school transcript or equivalent (translated or evaluated*)
    • Can be considered for waiver***.
  • College transcripts will only be accepted and reviewed if they are provided through an evaluation service and sent directly from the provider to the institution. 
  • If most recent college experience is 10 years or older, a resume will also be required. 
  • English proficiency score** (taken within the last 2 years OR English language waiver***)

*The evaluation agency must be a member of NACES or AICE.  Unofficial copies cannot be accepted. 

**English Language Proficiency tests from the following services will be accepted:

  • TOEFL (including the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition): Minimum score of 79 (iBT) or 550 (paper-based test)
  • TOEFL Essentials: Minimum score of 8.5
  • IELTS (including the IELTS Indicator online test): Minimum score of 6.5.
  • PTE (Pearson Test of English): Minimum score of 53
  • CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages): Completed level C1 Advanced (Certificate of Advanced English)
  • DET (Duolingo English Test): Minimum score of 105.

***English proficiency test scores are waived only if at least one of the following is met:

  • Native speaker of English with a permanent address from one of the following countries: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Belize, British Indian Ocean Territory, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guernsey, Guyana, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jamaica, Jersey, Montserrat, Nauru, New Zealand, Pitcairn Islands, Puerto Rico, Saint Helena, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, Uganda, United Kingdom, U.S. Virgin Islands, United States.
    • Waiver will not be granted if the student’s entire academic history (high school and college) is from a country which is not exempted. 
  • High school transcript clearly states that English is the language of instruction for all subjects.
  • Student studying in-person within the U.S., Canada or England for two or more years and not in an ESL (English as a second language) track.

All waivers are processed during business hours in the order they arrive. When waivers are approved, your Admissions Specialist will update your checklist in MaineStreet. Additional information may be requested.

How to Submit Documents

Transcripts are only considered official if they are sent directly to UMPI from the granting institution or their electronic ordering service. Student-submitted transcripts cannot be accepted.

Institutions and third-party vendors may submit official documents such as official transcripts, official letters, and English proficiency exam score reports to:

Resumes may be submitted directly by the student.  They can be sent to edocs@maine.edu or umpi-yourpace@maine.edu and will be uploaded to the applicant’s file upon receipt.

Other Variables

  • Graduate transcripts cannot be considered for transferable credit into an undergraduate program. 
  • Canadian students will follow out of state admission requirements unless the student is from and/or attended school within the province of Quebec. All transcripts from institutions within the province of Quebec need to be provided through an evaluation service or translation company.
