Alana Margeson

UMPI Class of 1999 Bachelors in Elementary Education

Update by Alana Margeson, alumna

“I’ve been teaching English at Caribou High School for eight years and am proud to be Maine’s 2012 Teacher of the Year. My wings have allowed me to take part in all kinds of educational experiences, like serving as a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the National Council for Teachers of English, an advisory board member for the Teaching Channel (teachingchannel.org), and a freelance writer for Dr. Janet Allen’s Plugged Into Reading and Plugged Into Non-Fiction literacy programs.  Throughout my years at UMPI, I felt welcomed, comfortable and yet challenged. The campus community truly cares about students. At UMPI, I never felt lost in the shuffle.”
Note: Since Alana submitted this update, she has joined the team at UMPI as Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, Assistant Professor of Education, and Director of the Education Program. She has furthered her education by receiving her M.Ed. from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine in 2008, and recently her Ed.D. from Walden University in 2019.
