Nominations open for Young Professionals Institute 2021

UMPI receives MOT grant for Maine Solar System Model

The University of Maine at Presque Isle has received a $7,500 enterprise marketing grant through the Maine Office of Tourism (MOT) Marketing Partnership Program to promote the Maine Solar System Model. The largest scale model of the solar system in the western hemisphere, and the second largest such model in the world, the Maine Solar System Model extends for nearly 100 miles along U.S. Route 1, from the Sun at UMPI to the dwarf planet Eris in Topsfield.

Lowman receives Association for Business Communication award

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Dr. Jacqui Lowman, Associate Professor of Professional Communication and Journalism, was honored recently by the Association for Business Communication with the 2020 Bernadine P. Branchaw Spirit of ABC Award. This international award recognizes Dr. Lowman’s work in the area of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the realm of business communication.

UMPI, UMF partner on School Health, PE offerings

In a unique partnership designed to meet the needs of schools and educators throughout the state, the University of Maine at Presque Isle is partnering with the University of Maine at Farmington to expand Physical Education and School Health offerings. UMPI faculty will provide online coursework in Physical Education to UMF students and UMF will deliver online School Health coursework to UMPI students.

UMPI dedicates John Lisnik Nursing Simulation Center

To mark the completion of a brand new, 1,800-square-foot Nursing lab at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, officials held a small, socially-distanced gathering on Oct. 29 to formally dedicate the space as the John Lisnik Nursing Simulation Center. This state-of-the-art learning space was made possible through voter-approved bond funding and was named in honor of Presque Isle native John Lisnik, a longtime advocate for Maine students who served as the University of Maine System’s liaison to the Legislature for more than two decades.

UMPI approved to offer first-ever Master’s degree

With approval from its accreditor, the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), the University of Maine at Presque Isle can now offer its very first Master’s degree program—a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership (MAOL). This fall will mark the first time in the institution’s 117-year history that a graduate program will be offered.

UMPI named a 2020 Great College to Work For and spotlighted on Honor Roll

For the first time ever, a public university in Maine—the University of Maine at Presque Isle—has been named one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to the 2020 survey by The Great Colleges to Work For® program. As an even more prestigious honor, in its first recognition by the program, UMPI has achieved distinction as a 2020 Honor Roll Institution, achieving high scores in 11 out of 12 categories.
