Play by UMPI student to be performed in NYC
Ever since Darci Faye was a little girl, she’s dreamed of becoming a playwright. Now that dream is happening in a very big way as the University of Maine at Presque Isle student prepares to see a show she wrote performed live on stage in New York City. This June and July, Faye’s play Infinitely Yours will get five performances at the Paradise Factory Theatre as part of the Planet Connections Theatre Festival.
University announces 2016 graduates
One hundred and fifty-six students graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle during the 2015-2016 academic year. On Saturday, May 14, during the 2016 Commencement Exercises, the University’s 107th Commencement, President Linda Schott conferred degrees upon 89 students who participated in the ceremony held in Wieden Gymnasium.
Employees honored during annual recognition event
The University of Maine at Presque Isle honored several employees for their years of service during the annual Employee Recognition reception held on May 25. Twenty-three employees were recognized for their combined 260 years of service to the University.
Cardboard chairs on display in Center for Innovative Learning
This spring, some not-so-typical chairs were on display in the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Center for Innovative Learning [CIL]. What set these particular chairs apart from the various stools, computer chairs, and cushioned seats available in the CIL is that these works of art were made from cardboard.

President Linda Schott has announced that Nicholas C. Donohue, the President and CEO of the Nellie Mae Education Foundation, will deliver the commencement address during the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s 107th Commencement Ceremony, to be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016. During the event, an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree will be presented to Donohue.
UMPI Art Program hosts Empty Bowls fundraiser
The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Art Program is bringing back a popular event that spreads hunger awareness through ceramics—the area’s third Empty Bowls fundraiser will take place on Tuesday, May 10 from 6-8 p.m. at the William V. Haskell Community Center (Presque Isle Recreation Center). Organized by UMPI Assistant Professor of Art Hyrum Benson’s Ceramics I, II and III classes, this unique event gives participants the opportunity to purchase unique homemade bowls and enjoy cups of soup, all to benefit a local soup kitchen. All County residents are invited to attend. Doors will open and bowls will officially go on sale at 6 p.m.
