A University of Maine at Presque Isle program that serves local residents over 50 and believes in “learning for life” will host its spring kick-off event at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 18 in the Campus Center. For 18 years, Seniors Achieving Greater Education [SAGE] has brought short courses in arts, sciences, and specialty areas to the region’s senior community.

UMPI Biology professor to give “genius” talk at Maine Science Festival
University of Maine at Presque Isle Assistant Professor of Biology Scott Dobrin has been invited to give a “5-Minute Genius” talk at the upcoming Maine Science Festival, to be held March 18 to 20 in Bangor. The festival, which launched in 2015 and hosted more than 10,000 people at over 45 events during its inaugural year, provides a weekend-long celebration of science in Maine.
Shakespeare & Company performs “Twelfth Night” at UMPI March 8
The University of Maine at Presque Isle is proud to present Shakespeare & Company for a one-night-only performance of the Bard’s beloved comedy Twelfth Night on Tuesday, March 8 at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium at Wieden Hall. Troupe members will provide a short talk-back for the audience after the show. All campus and community members are invited to attend this special, free admission event. Donations for future cultural arts programming will be accepted at the door.
Reed Gallery presents “O Time Your Pyramids” by Julie Poitras Santos
The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Reed Art Gallery is proud to present O Time Your Pyramids by Portland artist Julie Poitras Santos, from Friday, March 4 through Friday, April 15, 2016. The public is invited to view the exhibition throughout the show’s run and attend the Gallery Reception on Friday, March 4 from 5-7 p.m., which is being held in conjunction with the First Friday Art Walk. The event will include a durational performance featuring five UMPI Art students and a Gallery Talk at 5:30 p.m.
UMPI announces second Zillman Family Professor

UMPI hosts Science Lunchtime Seminar Series
Two academic programs at the University of Maine at Presque Isle are again joining forces this spring to provide the campus and community with an innovative way to explore the world of science. The Environmental Science and Sustainability and the Biology programs are again presenting a lunchtime seminar series that will provide a forum to present scientific research conducted by UMPI students and faculty as well as other local and regional scientists. This is the sixth time the two groups have hosted the series.

University hosts spring semester blood drive
The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host its annual spring semester American Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, Feb. 18 from 12 to 5 p.m. in the Campus Center’s Multi-Purpose Room. Door prizes will be given away during this time. Members of the campus and community are invited and encouraged to participate in this free event.
