University welcomes Mwika Musicians from Tanzania

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Bachelor of Social Work Program will present an evening of “Community, Friendship and Hope” when it hosts the Mwika Musicians for a special community reception on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium at Wieden Hall. This reception will include demonstrations of the group’s traditional Afrikan music through stories, song and dance. The event is free and open to the public and donations will be accepted at the door.

UMPI announces Educator, Distinguished Alumni awardees

The University of Maine at Presque Isle and the Alumni Association will honor two alumni with awards of distinction during Homecoming 2015 activities held during the Sept. 17-20 weekend. The annual alumni award presentations will be made during the Homecoming Alumni and Friends Brunch, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 10:30 a.m. in the Alumni Room, Campus Center.

Outing Club announces events for Fall 2015

The University of Maine at Presque Isle Outing Club is offering fall adventures and activities for campus and community members to enjoy, including an overnight camping weekend that complete with a hike to Katahdin as well as an outdoor rock climbing trip.

UMPI celebrates Zuras’ second novel with reading, book signing

A University of Maine at Presque Isle English Professor has had his second novel published and the University will celebrate with a reading and book signing event with the author on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center. The public is invited to attend this special event, which will include a reception featuring light refreshments, and wine available through a cash bar.

University Players presents Broadway Revue Sept. 18

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s University Players theater club is proud to present its first production of the Fall 2015 semester—a Broadway Revue. This one-night-only performance will be presented Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium at Wieden Hall. Admission is free though $5 suggested donations will be accepted at the door.

UMPI hosts 5th Annual Make-A-Wish Walk

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host a Make-A-Wish Walk on Thursday, Sept. 24 starting at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center. This event is sponsored and organized by the Dean of Students Office. Check-in and on-site registration begins at 6 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. This event is free and open to the public.

UMPI receives four top rankings from U.S. News and World Report

Officials at the University of Maine at Presque Isle are pleased to announce that the institution earned four top rankings on U.S. News and World Report’s 2016 Best Colleges list. In this year’s annual rankings, UMPI was named among the 50 Best Regional Colleges in the North, the 15 Top Public Schools in the North, and the top 10 Regional Colleges in the North for graduates with least debt.

UMPI celebrates Constitution Day with presentation on constitutional rights

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will celebrate the 228th birthday of the signing of the U.S. Constitution with a special presentation on Thursday, Sept. 17 from Noon to 1 p.m. in the Center for Innovative Learning. Dr. Brent Andersen, an assistant professor of political science (adjunct) at the University, will speak on “America’s Hidden Constitution.”
