The staff at the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s health and wellness facility are celebrating a Week of Wellness next week, between Wednesday and Friday, Sept. 23 and 25, and are pleased to invite campus and community members of all ages to take part in fun and free activities focused on healthy living. The event is sponsored in part by Cary Medical Center’s Healthy YOU program, and is free and open to the public. Free prizes and snacks will be provided throughout the three-day event.
The week’s activities are being led by Keli Marston, UMPI’s Fitness and Wellness Coordinator. Marston explained that the Gentile Hall staff wanted to do a health and activity-focused event at the beginning of the academic year that celebrates fresh starts and well-being.
The fun begins on Tuesday, Sept, 23, when Marston offers free orientations to all the strength machines in the fitness center from 8:30-11:30 a.m. From 12-2 p.m., Marston will lead a free two-hour fitness frenzy that includes 40 minutes of Interval Step, 40 minutes of Fit Camp, and 30 minutes of stability ball exercises.
On Wednesday, Sept. 24, Marston will offer free fitness assessments to the community. Sessions will be held from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Gentile Hall. The assessments will consist of body fat, circumference, flexibility, and strength.
To cap off the celebration, Marston invites the community to attend a free nutritional presentation—the topic is “Cooking Healthy on a Budget”—from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25 in the Alumni Room in the Campus Center.
“We’re really excited about our Week of Wellness, and we encourage everyone to come and observe everything our health and wellness facility has to offer for your fitness needs!” Marston said.
