Houlton Center Update

Dear UMPI Community,

As the new academic year gets underway, I wanted to provide another short update about our Houlton Center. With a new owner, Community Living Association, the work in the building has shifted to include more than higher education and education offerings. That is prompting us to use a name for our own operations–a carve-out within the larger space at 18 Military Street–that more accurately reflects our current state. Recognizing the work we continue to do to meet the educational needs of the greater Houlton region, we’ll be calling these operations the Houlton Educational Outreach Center.

As mentioned in a past message to campus, our operations include coverage for the reception desk and three rooms for UMPI and University of Maine System purposes. One room is set up to support individual office needs (currently that includes Academic Advising, TRIO, and Maine Educational Opportunity Center), one room is for Maine Cooperative Extension, and the last room has been reconfigured into a classroom/computer lab.

Work is underway now to update the name we use from Houlton Higher Education Center to Houlton Educational Outreach Center. If you note places where the name needs to be changed, please update accordingly or reach out to Betsy Sawhill Espe, betsy.sawhill@maine.eduor (207) 768-9515, with any questions.
