UMPI welcomes new employees

The University of Maine at Presque Isle welcomed nine new staff members during the Spring 2025 semester.

Gigail Cureton is UMPI’s new Veterans Coordinator in the Office of Student Records. She comes to campus after serving as Chief of Public Affairs for the Fayetteville, Va. Coastal Healthcare System within the Department of Veterans Affairs. She previously worked in public and media relations for veterans-focused healthcare and support services, including those within the Department of the Army, the United States Marine Corps, and Army National Guard. She has a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Lincoln University.

Roger Getz returns to campus as the Director of Career Readiness. He previously was UMPI’s Director of Library Services from 2015 to 2024. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in History from York College and Master’s degree in Library Science from Clarion University. He gained experience in library management at Central Penn College in Summerdale, Penn. before joining UMPI in 2015.

Laura Ingles is a new Instructional Designer. She comes to UMPI from Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield, Maine, where she was a presentation designer and instructional designer. She has served in media and digital support services for the University of Maine at Augusta and Maine College of Art & Design in Portland. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from Curry College in 1997, a graduate certificate in distance learning from Northeastern University in 2011, and is currently completing an instructional designer certificate from the Online Learning Consortium.

Melissa Lizotte joins UMPI as the new Marketing and Communications Administrative Specialist. She was previously a staff reporter for the Bangor Daily News and several local newspapers. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in English, with a concentration in writing, from UMPI and Master’s degree in English from Mercy College.

Kylie MacDougal is the new Health Center Administrative Specialist. MacDougal joins UMPI after working as a Medical Office Specialist at Pines Health Services in Caribou. She earned an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Maine at Fort Kent in 2023.

Kayli Malenfant joins UMPI as the new Academic Affairs Administrative Specialist. Malenfant is a graduate of Presque Isle High School and earned an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts from Northern Maine Community College in 2016. She previously worked as a receptionist for local healthcare and law offices.

Brandi Perry is the new University Advancement & Alumni Relations Administrative Specialist. Perry is originally from Utah, where she graduated from West Jordan High School and then from Weber State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion and a minor in Nutrition Education. She has experience in human resources and community prevention education for organizations in Utah and Aroostook County.

Peggy Roy is a YourPace Admissions Specialist/Document Processor. She comes to UMPI with over a decade of experience with the University of Maine System office as a staff associate and front desk employee. She previously held various positions in career advising, financial and customer service, education, healthcare, and retail. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Maine at Fort Kent.

Charles Scott joins UMPI as the new College of Professional Programs Administrative Specialist. Scott previously had careers in both the public and private sectors in computer programming, accounting, and office management. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from UMPI in 1991.

The following part-time faculty also have joined campus since Fall 2024: Joshua Boucher, Nathan Braun, Gianna DeJoy, Damian Dunbar, Stacey Elmore, Jennifer Forshay-Rodefer, Michael Goldenberg, Erica Hagedorn, Katherine Jones, Alex Lazo, Jason Lively, Christopher McLaughlin, Thomas McLaughlin, Quinton Otis, Joshua Rodefer, Rob Shah, Madison Sotomayor, Eric Taylor, Rajan Thapaliya, Keith Wade, and Robert Wojcik.

In addition to these new faculty and staff, several familiar faces have taken on new titles or accepted new positions: Courtney Boma, Executive Director of YourPace; Rowena McPherson, Director of Creative Services; Danielle Pelkey, Professional Academic Advisor; and Jessica Winslow, Director of YourPace Student Success.
