UMPI delivers close-to-home law enforcement course

Local students were able to take advantage of a law enforcement training course that prepares them to work as part-time police officers—without having to travel to Vassalboro for two weeks—because of a collaboration between the University of Maine at Presque Isle and the Maine Criminal Justice Academy (MCJA).

UMPI grad completing Boston Museum internship

University of Maine at Presque Isle Class of 2016 graduate Emma Ruff had little time to celebrate her Bachelor of Fine Art degree after this year’s Commencement Exercises: she went straight to work fulfilling a Lunder Fashion and Textile Arts Internship that she was awarded from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston This internship, in the David and Roberta Logie Department of Textile and Fashion Arts, brings together the experience Ruff has earned through her degree in Fine Arts from UMPI and her lifelong passion for fashion.

Reed Gallery presents Containers by Hyrum Benson

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Reed Art Gallery is proud to present Containers by Hyrum Benson, from Monday, July 25 through Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016. The public is invited to view the exhibition throughout the show’s run and attend the Gallery Reception on Friday, Sept. 2 from 5-7 p.m., which is being held in conjunction with the First Friday Art Walk. The event will include a Gallery Talk with the artist at 5:30 p.m.

UMPI releases Dean’s List for Spring 2016

Three hundred and sixteen students at the University of Maine at Presque Isle have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester, according to Dr. Ray Rice, Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.

Play by UMPI student to be performed in NYC

Ever since Darci Faye was a little girl, she’s dreamed of becoming a playwright. Now that dream is happening in a very big way as the University of Maine at Presque Isle student prepares to see a show she wrote performed live on stage in New York City. This June and July, Faye’s play Infinitely Yours will get five performances at the Paradise Factory Theatre as part of the Planet Connections Theatre Festival.

Gelder, Tessler conduct NSF grant-funded research

Exam week at the University of Maine at Presque Isle was even busier than usual this spring with the addition of two scientists conducting National Science Foundation grant-funded research. Dr. Stuart R. Gelder, Emeritus Professor of Biology at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, joined forces with Michael Tessler, a doctoral candidate at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, NY, for the effort.

UMPI Red Cross Club makes donation

Members of the University of Maine at Presque Isle Red Cross Club presented a check for $1155 to the American Red Cross of Northern & Eastern Maine on June 2. The club raised the funds during a very successful Red & White Event Supper and Auction held earlier this spring at UMPI in celebration of National Red Cross Month in March.
