Members of the University of Maine at Presque Isle community are mourning the passing of Donald N. Zillman, the institution’s 10th president, who served from 2006-2012. Zillman died July 27, 2023, at the age of 79.

UMPI seeks community partner for Houlton Center

In an effort to best support the educational needs of southern Aroostook County and surrounding areas, the University of Maine at Presque Isle is seeking a community partner to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Houlton Higher Education Center. University leaders will host a community meeting on Wednesday, July 26 at 5 p.m. at the Houlton Center to share efforts to date and answer any questions community members may have.

Four hundred and nineteen students at the University of Maine at Presque Isle have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester, according to Dr. Ray Rice, UMPI President and Provost.

Employees honored during recognition event

The University of Maine at Presque Isle honored several employees for their years of service during the Employee Recognition event on May 9. This year’s event recognized employees who marked a milestone anniversary in 2023. Eighteen employees were recognized for their combined 240 years of service to the University.

Two to be honored at UMPI’s 114th Commencement

University of Maine at Presque Isle President Ray Rice has announced that Sam W. Collins, President of S.W. Collins and past chair of the University of Maine System Board of Trustees, will deliver the commencement address. In addition, Collins and Mary Barton Akeley Smith—philanthropist and advocate for community development in the region—will receive Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degrees during the University’s 114th Commencement Ceremony.
