UMPI hosts 5th Annual Make-A-Wish Walk

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host a Make-A-Wish Walk on Thursday, Sept. 24 starting at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center. This event is sponsored and organized by the Dean of Students Office. Check-in and on-site registration begins at 6 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. This event is free and open to the public.

UMPI receives four top rankings from U.S. News and World Report

Officials at the University of Maine at Presque Isle are pleased to announce that the institution earned four top rankings on U.S. News and World Report’s 2016 Best Colleges list. In this year’s annual rankings, UMPI was named among the 50 Best Regional Colleges in the North, the 15 Top Public Schools in the North, and the top 10 Regional Colleges in the North for graduates with least debt.

UMPI celebrates Constitution Day with presentation on constitutional rights

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will celebrate the 228th birthday of the signing of the U.S. Constitution with a special presentation on Thursday, Sept. 17 from Noon to 1 p.m. in the Center for Innovative Learning. Dr. Brent Andersen, an assistant professor of political science (adjunct) at the University, will speak on “America’s Hidden Constitution.”

University hosts annual fall blood drive

In conjunction with the American Red Cross, the University of Maine at Presque Isle will hold its annual fall blood drive on Thursday, Sept. 17. The drive will run from Noon until 5 p.m. in the Campus Center’s Multi-Purpose Room. Members of the campus and community are invited and encouraged to participate in this free event.

SAGE kicks off fall class offerings

A University of Maine at Presque Isle program that serves local residents over 50 and believes in “learning for life” will host its fall kick-off event at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18 in the Campus Center. For 18 years, Seniors Achieving Greater Education [SAGE] has brought short courses in arts, sciences, and specialty areas to the region’s senior community.

UMPI Emeritus Professor contributes chapter to new book

Dr. JoAnne Putnam, University of Maine at Presque Isle Emeritus Professor of Education, has contributed a chapter to the book “Innovative Practice and Interventions for Children and Adolescents with Psychosocial Difficulties and Disabilities,” which was just published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing.

UMPI hosts Reed Rededication Celebration in new space

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Reed Fine Art Gallery has received a major upgrade—a beautiful, new, 2,000-square-foot space in a brand new place–and officials are hosting an event to both “unveil” the gallery and rededicate it on Friday, Sept. 18, from 6-8 p.m. during Homecoming weekend. This free event is open to the public and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.

Reed exhibit features special alumni show in new space

The Arts at the University of Maine at Presque Isle are kicking off an exciting new year in two special ways with a first-of-its-kind alumni show in a brand new space. The alumni exhibit, entitled “Now and Then: Honoring the Legacy of the Arts at UMPI” and featuring 18 of the Fine Art Program’s alumni, will serve—fittingly—as the very first show to go on display in the newly relocated Reed Fine Art Gallery.

U.S. Senator Susan M. Collins kicks off UMPI Distinguished Lecturer Series

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will present U.S. Senator Susan M. Collins—a County native and key leader in the U.S. Senate—as the first guest speaker in its 2015-2016 Distinguished Lecturer Series. Senator Collins will deliver her talk, “Can an Institutionalist Be a Change Agent?”, on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 4 p.m. in the Campus Center. This talk is free and the public is invited to attend.

“Redy” Youth Adventure Challenge set for UMPI September 13

Jumping over hay hurdles and rolling potato barrels are just two of the fun obstacles local youth will get to tackle during the 2015 Redy Youth Adventure Challenge, taking place on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 9 a.m. This year’s fourth annual event, a unique collaboration among Aroostook County Action Program’s (ACAP) Healthy Aroostook, TAMC, and the University of Maine at Presque Isle, will celebrate active lifestyles and the region’s agricultural heritage.
