University of Maine at Presque Isle President Ray Rice has announced that Sam W. Collins, President of S.W. Collins and past chair of the University of Maine System Board of Trustees, will deliver the commencement address. In addition, Collins and Mary Barton Akeley Smith—philanthropist and advocate for community development in the region—will receive Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degrees during the University’s 114th Commencement Ceremony.
Defying Expectations is the theme of the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s 20th annual University Day, taking place on Wednesday, April 12, and students will be showcasing that theme in presentations on everything from digital storytelling using artificial intelligence to the art and science of early childhood education the opioid epidemic and drug policy in Maine.

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Reed Art Gallery presents Langlais’ World, from March 3 to April 21, 2023. The exhibition will feature a selection from its large collection of original artworks by Maine native and internationally renowned artist Bernard Langlais, including sculptures, paintings, drawings, constructions, and sketchbooks. Some of these works will be seen for the first time since they were gifted to UMPI by the Kohler Foundation.
