Libra Lecture Series presents AI expert

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will present Dr. C. Edward Watson, author and Vice President for Digital Innovation at the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), as the next speaker in its 2024-2025 Libra Distinguished Lecture Series on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. in the Campus Center.

DEI Council hosts Native American Heritage events

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s DEI Council will host two events on Thursday, Nov. 7 to mark Native American Heritage Month in November. From 12:30-2 p.m. in the Campus Center MPR, campus and community members are invited to attend a screening of the short film Mary and Molly followed by a panel discussion with the film collaborators. The film depicts Mary learning about her Penobscot heritage and the forced assimilation of indigenous children by the state. At 2 p.m., the DEI Council will host a group tour of the Mi’kmaq fish hatchery at Mi’kmaq Farms in Caribou. Transportation will be available for those who wish to participate.

UMPI receives 4 top rankings from U.S. News

Officials at the University of Maine at Presque Isle are pleased to announce that the institution earned four top rankings on U.S. News and World Report’s 2025 Best Colleges list. In this year’s annual rankings, UMPI was named among the top tier of Best Regional Colleges in the North, the 20 Top Public Schools in the North, the top 10 Regional Colleges in the North for graduates with least debt, and the top 30 Regional Colleges in the North for Social Mobility.

Reed Gallery presents Glenna Johnson Smith: Writer, Artist, Teacher

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Reed Art Gallery will present Glenna Johnson Smith: Writer, Artist, Teacher from Oct. 4 to Nov. 22, 2024. The exhibition will celebrate the life and work of well-known writer, teacher, and long-time Presque Isle resident Glenna Johnson Smith (1920-2020) and will feature manuscripts, original artwork, and other memorabilia.

Cariani serves as Libra speaker, Voices in the North Country keynote

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host John Cariani, a Tony Award-nominated actor, accomplished playwright, and author who was born and raised in Presque Isle, as the next speaker in its 2024-2025 Libra Distinguished Lecture Series on Thursday. Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center. During his talk, Cariani will read from his recent work, Almost Maine–a novel and a new short story from the world of Almost Maine. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
