The University of Maine at Presque Isle will present nationally recognized educator and Florida Teacher of the Year Dorina Sackman-Ebuwa as the next speaker in its 2021-2022 Libra Distinguished Lecture Series on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center. She will deliver a talk titled B.E.L.I.E.V.E.! in Emotional Intelligence: Navigating the Intrapersonal Pillar of TEI for Everyday Personal Excellence.

New York Times best-selling author to serve as next LDLS speaker

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will present New York Times best-selling author Kate Braestrup as the first speaker in its 2021-2022 Libra Distinguished Lecture Series on Friday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center. During her talk, Practice and Play in the Maine Woods, Braestrup will pass on lessons learned from game wardens about preparing for, and enjoying, time in the wild and beautiful lands of Maine. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

UMPI receives top rankings from U.S. News and World Report

Officials at the University of Maine at Presque Isle are pleased to announce that the institution earned four top rankings on U.S. News and World Report’s 2022 Best Colleges list. In this year’s annual rankings, UMPI was named among the top tier of Best Regional Colleges in the North, the 20 Top Public Schools in the North, the top 20 Regional Colleges in the North for graduates with least debt, and the top 40 Regional Colleges in the North for Social Mobility.

UMPI’s Phish IT Men “adopted” by Maine Cabin Masters

Exactly 12 years after the IT Men were unveiled in a ceremony at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, they’ll be heading to a new home in Maine to be refurbished and put back on public display by a group with the expertise to take on the job. The Maine Cabin Masters are known nationally for their Maine-based restoration work through their show on the DIY Network. The crew will be taking on the IT Men as a long-term loan from UMPI with plans to display the art installation at The Woodshed, their bar and event venue in Manchester, Maine.

McCartney prepares for a year of research

Kevin McCartney, Professor of Geology at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, will depart for a year of research—first on the other side of the country and later on the other side of the world–at the beginning of September. He will complete a semester sabbatical at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, to be followed by a Fulbright to India during the spring. During the eight or nine months that he will be away from northern Maine, he will pursue his lifelong interest in a group of single-celled fossils known as silicoflagellates.

University announces 2021 graduates

Two hundred and twenty-seven students graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle during the 2020-2021 academic year. On Saturday, May 8, during the University’s 112th Commencement and second-ever virtual Commencement ceremony, President Rice conferred degrees upon the graduating students.

Reed Gallery reopens with ACHROMATIC exhibition

After being closed to the public for 16 months, the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Reed Art Gallery is proud to present ACHROMATIC – A Celebration of Black-and-White Art. The show opens on July 23 and will be on display through Sept. 17, 2021. The public is invited to view the exhibition throughout the show’s run and attend the Opening Reception on Friday, July 23 from 5-7 p.m.
