Gerrish receives Wanbaugh Memorial Art Award

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is presenting this year’s Robert Wanbaugh Memorial Art Award to Brianna Gerrish of Presque Isle. Her glazed stoneware sculpture Brux will be added to the University’s permanent art collection.

UMPI releases Dean’s list for Fall 2020

Three hundred and eighty-five students at the University of Maine at Presque Isle have been named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester, according to Dr. Ray Rice, UMPI President and Provost.

UMPI, UMF partner on School Health, PE offerings

In a unique partnership designed to meet the needs of schools and educators throughout the state, the University of Maine at Presque Isle is partnering with the University of Maine at Farmington to expand Physical Education and School Health offerings. UMPI faculty will provide online coursework in Physical Education to UMF students and UMF will deliver online School Health coursework to UMPI students.

UMPI holds 7th Annual Take Back the Night

The University of Maine at Presque Isle hosted its seventh annual Take Back the Night event, a peaceful, socially-distanced candlelight walk to raise community awareness for sexual and domestic violence on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m., in front of South Hall. This annual event was co-sponsored by the UMPI Black Student Union and Student Organization of Social Workers. The gathering was free to attend and everyone who participated followed social distancing guidelines. 

UMPI dedicates John Lisnik Nursing Simulation Center

To mark the completion of a brand new, 1,800-square-foot Nursing lab at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, officials held a small, socially-distanced gathering on Oct. 29 to formally dedicate the space as the John Lisnik Nursing Simulation Center. This state-of-the-art learning space was made possible through voter-approved bond funding and was named in honor of Presque Isle native John Lisnik, a longtime advocate for Maine students who served as the University of Maine System’s liaison to the Legislature for more than two decades.

UMPI approved to offer first-ever Master’s degree

With approval from its accreditor, the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), the University of Maine at Presque Isle can now offer its very first Master’s degree program—a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership (MAOL). This fall will mark the first time in the institution’s 117-year history that a graduate program will be offered.

UMPI named a 2020 Great College to Work For and spotlighted on Honor Roll

For the first time ever, a public university in Maine—the University of Maine at Presque Isle—has been named one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to the 2020 survey by The Great Colleges to Work For® program. As an even more prestigious honor, in its first recognition by the program, UMPI has achieved distinction as a 2020 Honor Roll Institution, achieving high scores in 11 out of 12 categories.
