UMPI hosts Science Lunchtime Seminar Series

Three academic programs at the University of Maine at Presque Isle are joining forces this fall to provide the campus and community with an innovative way to explore the world of science. The Environmental Science and Sustainability, Biology, and Agricultural Science programs are hosting a lunchtime seminar series that provides a forum to present scientific research conducted by UMPI students and faculty, and local and regional scientists, as well as topics in management, medicine and applied science.

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Employer U program, which focuses on providing workforce development opportunities, will offer two 20-hour courses this fall beginning Monday, Oct. 15, as part of the American Management Association’s University certificate program. The sessions will be held at the MMG Center for Professional Development, located on the first floor of Kelley Commons, adjacent to the Campus Center.

UMPI to host Graduate School Fair

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will be holding a Graduate School Fair on Thursday, Oct. 18 from Noon to 2 p.m. in the Owl’s Nest of the Campus Center. Hosted by the Student Activities Office and the Office of Career Readiness, the fair will include representatives from five graduate schools and provide students with the opportunity to begin networking with them. All are welcome to attend this free event.

Mark Shepard, author and sustainable ag proponent, to speak at UMPI

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will present Mark Shepard—the CEO of Forest Agriculture Enterprises, award-winning author of Restoration Agriculture: Real-World Permaculture for Farmers, and proponent of sustainable agriculture—as the next speaker in its 2018-2019 Distinguished Lecturer Series. Shepard will deliver his talk on Restoration Agriculture on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center.

UMPI invites campus and community to participate in UNITY Project

An interactive art installation is coming together at the University of Maine at Presque Isle this September and organizers are encouraging campus and community members to join in the effort to “build” the structure. This is the second year UMPI has presented the UNITY Project—an interactive public art project that celebrates the differences that tie people together. The display will be up through UMPI’s Homecoming Weekend, which takes place Sept. 27-30.

Fireworks, African dance troupe slated for UMPI’s Homecoming 2018

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will present Homecoming 2018: Friends and Family Weekend from Thursday to Sunday, Sept. 27-30, featuring entertainment and family-friendly activities. From a show by Kotchegna African dance company to an explosive fireworks display to multiple alumni games for students and the public, all are invited to join the University for its annual Homecoming weekend.

UMPI hosts Zillman for “Living the World War” reading

Former University of Maine at Presque Isle President Donald Zillman will bring the week by week experience of living through World War I to life when he delivers a book reading on Monday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m. in the UMPI Campus Center. This event is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be served and books will be available for purchase.

UMPI receives three top rankings from U.S. News

Officials at the University of Maine at Presque Isle are pleased to announce that the institution earned three top rankings on U.S. News and World Report’s 2019 Best Colleges list. In this year’s annual rankings, UMPI was named among the 35 Best Regional Colleges in the North, the 15 Top Public Schools in the North, and the top 10 Regional Colleges in the North for graduates with least debt.
