University of Maine at Presque Isle President Ray Rice has announced that Cathie Pelletier, nationally-acclaimed author and County native, will deliver the commencement address. In addition, Pelletier and David McCrea, former Maine State Representative, local educator, and UMPI alumnus, will receive Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degrees during the University’s 115^th Commencement Ceremony, to be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

From Sunday, April 7, until Wednesday, April 10, artist Abigail DeVille’s Lunar Capsule (2023), an interactive sculpture, will go on view at the Houlton Higher Education Center in Houlton, Maine. The University of Maine at Presque Isle will present Haley Moss, neurodiversity expert and the first openly autistic lawyer in Florida, as a 2023-2024 Libra Distinguished Lecture Series speaker on Tuesday, April 9 at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center. Moss will deliver a talk titled Neurodiversity: Leveling Up Our Perspective.

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will mark the upcoming total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, with a “Solar-bration”. From 2-4:30 p.m. in the parking areas between Gentile Hall and Folsom-Pullen Hall, all are invited to welcome and witness the total solar eclipse, complete with food, music, activities, and fun.

Following a successful, four-month-long fundraising campaign, the University of Maine at Presque Isle will install and unveil a 23-foot-tall, three-dimensional sun model as the newest addition to its Maine Solar System Model, and do so just in time for the total solar eclipse. Installation is expected to get underway this week and the unveiling will take place on Monday, April 8 at 10 a.m. in front of Preble Hall. All are invited to attend this special event.

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is proud to present Shakespeare & Company for a one-night-only performance of the Bard’s beloved comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream on Friday, March 29 at 7 p.m. in the Gauvin Family Center for Cultural Arts, located in Wieden Hall.
