Guerrette replaces Coach Mike Carlos, who coached the Owl women’s softball team the past several seasons. In her new coaching role, Guerrette will prepare the team for competitive play within the NAIA and oversee recruiting efforts.
“I know Tracy will work hard to make our Softball team competitive in the Sunrise Conference this spring,” said UMPI Athletic Director Bill Casavant.
While Guerrette is well known for her skills on the basketball court, earning many honors while playing for the University of Maine’s women’s basketball team, she also had a successful softball career in high school, where she pitched and played first base. She was a four-year starter on the varsity softball team at Wisdom High School in St. Agatha. As a junior and senior, she earned the softball Most Valuable Player award and was chosen to play on the All-Aroostook softball team. During her senior year, she was named an All-State softball athlete.
After a successful basketball career in Orono – Guerrette could only play one sport in college – she eventually returned home to The County, where she taught and coached varsity basketball and softball at Wisdom High School for three years. Her softball team made it to the play-offs twice during her three years of coaching there. Guerrette joined UMPI’s Athletic Department in 2007.
“I’m really excited about helping to build a winning program at UMPI and to continue that tradition of excellence that we’re trying to build here,” Guerrette said. “I’m excited about the team I’m going to inherit. There’s a lot of talent and a lot of potential to do great things this season.”
Players interested in playing softball should contact Coach Guerrette as soon as possible since practices will begin soon after the new semester gets underway.
