When Jessica and Christopher Morley participate in the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s graduation ceremony on May 12, it will be a family affair. The couple, who are among the 170 students graduating from UMPI this academic year, have been married for 16 years, have been working for the last six years to complete their degrees, and have four children between the ages of 6 and 15 who will be cheering them on as they receive their diplomas.

University of Maine at Presque Isle President Ray Rice has announced that U.S. Senator Angus King will deliver the commencement address during the University’s 109th Commencement Ceremony, to be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018. During the event, Senator King will also be presented with an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree.
Goldenberg Duo to perform at UMPI May 2
As part of its tour of the Atlantic Provinces and Maine, the Goldenberg Duo brings a night of classical music and other contemporary pieces to the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Wednesday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium in Wieden Hall. The performance by this brother and sister piano and violin duo is open to the public and free; donations will be accepted at the door for future cultural arts programming.

UMPI hosts spring management courses
The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Employer U program, which focuses on providing workforce development opportunities for the region, will offer two courses this spring beginning Monday, April 30, as part of its American Management Association’s University certificate program. Each 20-hour course will be offered in the MMG Center for Professional Development, located on the first floor of Kelley Commons, adjacent to the Campus Center.

UMPI’s Studio 923 hosts Trash to Fashion Show ahead of Earth Day
In honor of Earth Day, aspiring local designers will elevate recycled materials into high fashion when the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Studio 923 Art Club hosts its 3rd Annual Trash to Fashion Show on Friday, April 20, at 6 p.m. in the Campus Center’s Multi-Purpose Room. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this event, which has a suggested $5 ticket price.
