REDY Youth Triathlon returns to UMPI Sept. 11

It’s back by popular demand. After taking 2015 off, the REDY Youth Triathlon returns to the University of Maine at Presque Isle Campus on Sunday, September 11, 2016. The on-line registration site will be live very soon for this event aimed at getting kids to be more active.

Reed Gallery presents Plein Air Painters of Maine

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Reed Art Gallery is proud to present PAPME at UMPI by the Plein Air Painters of Maine organization, from Monday, May 2 through Sunday, June 19, 2016. These artists are uniquely experienced in capturing their impressions of the Maine landscape and coastline that can only be experienced while painting under the open sky. The public is invited to view the exhibition throughout the show’s run and attend the Gallery Reception on Friday, May 6 from 5-7 p.m., which is being held in conjunction with the First Friday Art Walk. The event will include a Gallery Talk with select artists at 5:30 p.m.

Pullen Gallery features 2016 Fine Art Senior Thesis Exhibitions

The University of Maine at Presque Isle Fine Art Program faculty members are pleased to announce the two solo exhibitions developed through the 2015-16 Fine Art Senior Thesis Exhibition course. The series of exhibitions will be hosted in the Pullen Art Gallery: Roldena Sanipass’s exhibit runs from April 29 to May 5, and Emma Ruff’s exhibit runs from May 6 to 15.

4th Annual Safe Homes run/walk taking place at UMPI

The University of Maine at Presque will serve as the host site of the 4th Annual Safe Homes Aroostook “Move to End Homelessness” 5K fundraiser on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at 1 p.m. The 5K fun run/walk, a timed event that will be held rain or shine, will start and end at Gentile Hall and wind along the city’s sidewalks and bike path. Pre-registration check-in and same-day registration will begin at 11:30 a.m.

UMPI’s Distinguished Lecturer Series presents nationally renowned educator, filmmaker Jim Keady

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is pleased to present Jim Keady, a nationally renowned educator, activist, and filmmaker, as the last speaker in its 2015-2016 Distinguished Lecturer Series. During his talk, Behind the Swoosh, Keady will focus on sweatshops and social justice as he share stories of his decade-and-a-half-long efforts to end sweatshop abuses. His presentation, which also serves as the keynote address for UMPI’s 15th Annual University Day, will take place on Tuesday, April 19, at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center. This event is free and the public is invited to be a part of this special evening.

The theme of this year’s event is Disrupting the Status Quo.

UMPI’s Studio 923 hosts Trash to Fashion Show in honor of Earth Day

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Studio 923 Art Club will be hosting its very first Trash to Fashion Show on Earth Day, April 22, 2016. The show, to be held at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium in Wieden Hall, will feature the fashion design skills of students and community members in a runway show. All creations are made exclusively from recycled materials. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this event; there is a suggested $5 ticket price.

UMPI’s Pullen Art Gallery presents Student Photography Exhibition

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Pullen Art Gallery will host a special exhibition in April featuring the work of photography students. The Student Photography Exhibition will be on display from April 1 to 22, with an opening reception on Friday, April 1 from 6-7:30 p.m. during the April First Friday Art Walk. All are invited to attend this free event. Light refreshments will be available.
