UMPI, Red Cross to host Super Blood Drive
The American Red Cross and the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Residence Life Office are teaming up to pull off the University’s seventh “Super” Blood Drive this summer, the time of year when the need for blood increases.
The Super Blood Drive will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 30 in the Gentile Hall Gymnasium. The event is being sponsored by the University and cosponsored by Pat’s Pizza, Big Cheese Pizza, Wal-Mart, and Country Farm’s Market.
University of Maine at Presque Isle hosts 105th Commencement
Two hundred and thirteen students graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday, May 17, during the 2014 Commencement Exercises – the University’s 105th Commencement ceremony. President Linda Schott conferred degrees for the 2013-2014 academic year upon 138 students who participated in the ceremony held in Wieden Gymnasium.
UMPI Online English Major travels 1,450 miles to march in graduation
The road to a college degree can be long for many college students, but it usually doesn’t involve a 1,450-mile, three-day road trip each way with a spouse and three kids in tow. But that’s exactly the journey that University of Maine at Presque Isle Online English major Heather Herbert and her family are taking—from their home in Cumming, Georgia, which is north of Atlanta, to Presque Isle—so she can receive her Bachelor’s degree in person.
TRiO College Access Services receives grant from Maine EPSCoR
High school sophomores in TRiO Upward Bound at the University of Maine at Presque Isle will have the opportunity to participate in a two-week learning experience on climate change as a part of the summer residential program thanks to a $3,000 mini-grant from the Maine Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research [EPSCoR].
Ellis Paul to perform at UMPI May 18
A nationally acclaimed singer-songwriter who has spent more than 20 years touring as a musician, and who just happens to call Presque Isle his hometown, will present a special performance in May at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Ellis Paul will present a benefit concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2014, in the Campus Center. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $20 at the door.

President Linda Schott has announced that Ellis Paul—a national acclaimed singer-songwriter who hails from Presque Isle and has spent more than 20 years touring as a musician—will deliver the commencement address during the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s 105th Commencement Ceremony, to be held on Saturday, May 17. During the event, an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree will be presented to Paul.
UMPI announces major gift, establishment of Bernard Langlais Collection
The University of Maine at Presque Isle has become the premiere research facility for art lovers and scholars who want to study the artistic process of acclaimed sculptor Bernard Langlais after receiving a gift of more than 800 Langlais art pieces from the Kohler Foundation, Inc. UMPI officials announced the major gift and the establishment of the Langlais Study Collection during a press conference held on April 24 in the Reed Fine Art Gallery.

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Reed Fine Art Gallery will present Bernard Langlais: The Man Behind the Owls, an exhibition of the acclaimed Maine sculptor, from May 2 through June 21, 2014. The public is invited to view the exhibition throughout the show’s run and attend the Opening Reception on May 2 from 5-7 p.m., which is being held in conjunction with the Presque Isle First Friday Art Walk. Curator of the collection and Reed Gallery Director Heather Sincavage will hold a Gallery Talk at 5:30 p.m.
