The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Reed Fine Art Gallery will host a closing reception for the 2010 Senior Thesis Exhibition on Friday, Sept. 10 from 4-6 p.m.
The show, which has been on display throughout the summer, features the selected works of nine UMPI Fine Art students from their solo exhibitions. The Reed Fine Art Gallery has presented a Senior Thesis Exhibition each year for the last three years as an opportunity for young and upcoming artists in northern Maine to showcase their work to the public and to provide a forum for these students to discuss their works.
Students whose works were featured in this year’s exhibition include: Lulu Pelletier, Krsna-Bhava Albert, Arelis Soto De Jimenez, Jasmyn Shaw, Jennifer Molloy, Jessica Carpenter, Whitney Graham, Rachel Pinette, and Joanna R. Dumond. These nine women completed Art 499, Senior Thesis Project – the two-semester class that culminates in installing a one-person exhibition in the Pullen Art Gallery – during the spring semester.
The 2010 Senior Thesis Exhibition gives visitors the opportunity to view some of the cutting edge work Fine Art students at the University have been doing in the last year.
During the closing reception on Sept. 10, artists will be present for a discussion of their work, the process and their class. The public is invited to attend. There is no charge and light refreshments will be served.
The Reed Fine Art Gallery is open Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed Sundays and university holidays. For more information about this event, please contact Reed Gallery Director Sandra Huck at 768-9611.
