“The University is so pleased to be bringing Shakespeare & Company back to Presque Isle for a very special performance of one of Shakespeare’s most famous works,” UMPI President Ray Rice said. “There is nothing like witnessing Shakespeare’s plays live and on stage and we are grateful that UMPI can help to provide cultural experiences like this to our campus and community. We highly encourage everyone to make plans to attend.”
The Northeast Regional Tour of Shakespeare unleashes the dark and powerful tale of Shakespeare’s Macbeth: a tale of murder, madness, and magic begins as Macbeth is promised a golden future as ruler of Scotland by supernatural forces. Spurred on by his wife, he murders the king to ensure his ambitions come true. But he soon learns the meaning of greed: killing once, he must kill again and again, while the dead return to haunt him.
The Northeast Regional Tour is one of the many education programs offered as part of the Company’s theater-in-education program, which has been identified by the MacArthur Foundation, the GE Foundation, and The President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities as a “Champion of Change.”
Founded in 1978, Shakespeare & Company is one of the country’s largest and best-known Shakespeare Festivals, operating year-round and welcoming more than 60,000 patrons annually to its performance space in Lenox, Massachusetts.
