UMPI 100% Society presents Gay Days events

The UMPI 100% Society will be hosting two special guest speakers to discuss LGTBQ issues as part of its Gay Days events on the University of Maine at Presque Isle campus. Casey Faulkingham, with Hope and Justice Project, will speak on Tuesday, Oct. 6, and internationally acclaimed fantasy fiction author Lynn Flewelling will deliver a presentation on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Both talks will be held in the Allagash Room of the Campus Center at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend this free event.

American Shakespeare Center performs “The Importance of Being Earnest” at UMPI Oct. 4

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is hosting the American Shakespeare Center for a one-matinee-only performance of Oscar Wilde’s brilliant comic masterpiece The Importance of Being Earnest on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 3 p.m. in the Auditorium at Wieden Hall. A pre-show talk with members of the troupe will be held at 2:30 p.m. All campus and community members are invited to witness the wickedly witty writing and nationally renowned performances in this special, free admission event. Donations will be accepted at the door.

Group to give talk at UMPI on Beyond Limits Katahdin Expedition

A group of local adventurers will share their trip of a lifetime—an expedition to get a person with paraplegia to the summit of Mt. Katahdin—when they deliver their presentation Beyond Limits on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. in the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Campus Center. This event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

University welcomes Mwika Musicians from Tanzania

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Bachelor of Social Work Program will present an evening of “Community, Friendship and Hope” when it hosts the Mwika Musicians for a special community reception on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium at Wieden Hall. This reception will include demonstrations of the group’s traditional Afrikan music through stories, song and dance. The event is free and open to the public and donations will be accepted at the door.

UMPI celebrates Zuras’ second novel with reading, book signing

A University of Maine at Presque Isle English Professor has had his second novel published and the University will celebrate with a reading and book signing event with the author on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center. The public is invited to attend this special event, which will include a reception featuring light refreshments, and wine available through a cash bar.

UMPI celebrates Homecoming 2015

UMPI receives four top rankings from U.S. News and World Report

Officials at the University of Maine at Presque Isle are pleased to announce that the institution earned four top rankings on U.S. News and World Report’s 2016 Best Colleges list. In this year’s annual rankings, UMPI was named among the 50 Best Regional Colleges in the North, the 15 Top Public Schools in the North, and the top 10 Regional Colleges in the North for graduates with least debt.

UMPI celebrates Constitution Day with presentation on constitutional rights

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will celebrate the 228th birthday of the signing of the U.S. Constitution with a special presentation on Thursday, Sept. 17 from Noon to 1 p.m. in the Center for Innovative Learning. Dr. Brent Andersen, an assistant professor of political science (adjunct) at the University, will speak on “America’s Hidden Constitution.”

UMPI hosts Reed Rededication Celebration in new space

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Reed Fine Art Gallery has received a major upgrade—a beautiful, new, 2,000-square-foot space in a brand new place–and officials are hosting an event to both “unveil” the gallery and rededicate it on Friday, Sept. 18, from 6-8 p.m. during Homecoming weekend. This free event is open to the public and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.

Reed exhibit features special alumni show in new space

The Arts at the University of Maine at Presque Isle are kicking off an exciting new year in two special ways with a first-of-its-kind alumni show in a brand new space. The alumni exhibit, entitled “Now and Then: Honoring the Legacy of the Arts at UMPI” and featuring 18 of the Fine Art Program’s alumni, will serve—fittingly—as the very first show to go on display in the newly relocated Reed Fine Art Gallery.
