The University of Maine at Presque Isle is pleased to announce that it has hired Daniel Hotham as its new Head Golf Coach.
Hotham recently retired from Northern Maine Community College, where, in addition to his work as the institution’s longest serving faculty member, he served for more than 20 years as the first head coach of the varsity golf team. During his time as golf coach at NMCC, the Falcons were members of the Maine Small College Conference, which included community colleges from around the state and the University of Maine at Augusta. During his 22 years of coaching at NMCC, the Falcons won the conference title three times.
“The UMPI Athletic Department and the University community are excited about this new addition to the Owl family,” Chris Corsello, UMPI’s Athletic Director, said. “Dan has extensive experience in coaching golf at the college level and we’re looking forward to the work he is going to do with our team.”
Hotham, who has a Bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Maine at Machias, and a Master’s degree from Antioch New England Graduate School, has been playing golf since he was a teeenager. He took time off from the sport during college, but it was not long before he felt the itch to get back on the links, and he’s been playing ever since. Currently, he stays heavily involved in golf, playing anywhere from 20 to 25 tournaments every summer. He has won several club championships, the Spudland Open twice, the McCain’s Open, and several other local events.
Hotham said he is looking forward to stepping in as UMPI’s Head Golf Coach.
“I enjoy sharing my passion for the game with young people because it is a game they can play for the rest of their lives. It provides an opportunity for them to enjoy the outdoors, and the company of those who play and enjoy this challenging game,” he said.
Hotham will begin his new duties this fall.
