UMPI Art Club hosts 4th annual Student Art Competition

The University of Maine at Presque Isle Art Club, Studio 923, will host its 4th Annual Student Art Competition from April 6 to 22, 2018, providing UMPI students with the opportunity to compete in a jury-selected art competition for the chance to showcase their work. All are invited to view the show in the Pullen Art Gallery.

All of the work displayed in the competition are pieces completed by students in courses taught by the University within the last year. The UMPI Art Competition is a juried event and there will be an award ceremony on Friday, April 6 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Pullen Gallery, as part of the First Friday Art Walk. Artists are asked to plan on attending if their work is juried into the show.

UMPI Art student Bethany MacPherson said of the show: “Since we don’t go to a niche art school with just art majors in it, it’s a great opportunity for us to show off our work to the whole University where as other times, we wouldn’t be able to. We are also able to show that we aren’t doing pointless, easy, little doodles which is often the thought that people have when you tell them you’re an art major. We get to show off our hard work and that’s the most important part.”

“This show is a great exhibition of what students in the Art program at UMPI are producing and gives the students an opportunity to display their best works,” Hyrum Benson, UMPI Associate Professor of Art, said.
