In celebration of winter fun, families and community members are invited to come to the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Wednesday, March 2, from Noon to 5 p.m. to experience the thrill of a short dog sled ride.
Heywood Kennel Sled Dog Adventures from Stockholm will have two sets of friendly working huskies and sleds guided by registered Maine guides on campus, providing a great opportunity for those interested in trying out this exciting adventure. Children and adults are welcome; two people go in one sled. The cost is only $2 per person per ride and participants can take as many rides as they want. To find this event, take the UMPI main driveway and park in the tennis courts parking lot. The dogs will be following a trail circling UMPI’s soccer field.
Dog sledding is only one of many events UMPI is sponsoring as part of its two-day, 4th Annual Frozen Frenzy celebration. Other activities for students include snow shoeing, tubing, maple syrup taffy making, snow soccer, skiing/snowboarding at Big Rock, and a bonfire with S’mores and hot cocoa.
