Living on campus means there’s always something to do, opportunities to make friends, and ways to give back to the community that will help you build valuable skills for your future. The Housing and Residence Life Department at UMPI hosts a variety of programming initiatives throughout the academic year designed to strengthen the floor communities and build strong relationships with residents.  Below are examples of different events that we host during the academic year

Battle of the Buildings

We have Residence Life wide competitions throughout the year where buildings can compete against buildings or floors against floors. IE. Ping Pong Tournament, Pool Tournament, and Floor Olympics.

Get Out Program

The Get Out Program is designed so that residents have the opportunity to get out of the residence hall and into the local community for the day. Destinations include local festivals, service opportunities, and recreation trips like hiking, kayaking, winter sports.

Competitions With A Cause

In our desire to give back to the community, Residence Life runs different initiatives to benefit our local community. Examples include food and clothing drives, Penny Wars, and other community service oriented activities.

Resident Assistant Programming

We have 10 Resident Assistants (RAs) who are also responsible for hosting their own programs within the residence halls. Our current programming model requires each RA to have at least one event in the following categories per semester:

  • Fun/Social Event: This includes activities such as art projects, cooking, slime, etc
  • Collaborative Event: Must partner with an UMPI department or local organization/business
  • Competitive Event : Examples of this include board game nights, tennis tournaments, video games, etc
  • Team Event: RAs host one of the Battle of the Building Events.

Event Calendar

To learn about upcoming events, please see our Events Calendar and read the weekly email from our Director of Campus Engagement for updates and flyers.

Talon Tokens

To encourage participation in on-campus events, UMPI has Talon Tokens tied to each event. Students can earn 1-5 Talon Token at each event by signing the attendance roster. At the end of the semester UMPI holds a large raffle and students can exchange the Talon Tokens for raffle tickets that you can place into any prize basket that you wish. The more you participate, the more you earn. Past prizes included gift cards, UMPI merchandise, a kayak, Air Pods, and more.

Look for the Talon Token Logo on the event flyers!
